Why oil your worktop? Well, being a natural product, wood is susceptible to changes in atmosphere. Worktops are subject to some vigorous action with various substances and products coming into contact with them. A wooden worktop needs sealing with oil to prevent it from soaking up other substances that it may come into contact with. It will prevent it taking on various cooking smells and it will protect it from colour change. It also has the added benefit of you being able to make the wood your chosen depth of colour from the outset. If you love your wooden worktop you'll protect it with oil.
